Mavrovouni ( Greek Μαυροβούνι ( n. Sg. )) Is at 1189 m a northern branch and offshore summit of the Dirfys Mountains (Ορη Δίρφη), the dominant mountains in the north of Central Euboea . He is directly connected to the scotini (Σκοτεινή). Nearby mountains are the Ortari (Ορτάρι) and Xerovouni (Ξεροβούνι) mountains . Further south is the Kadditiko - Passiotiko - Manikiatiko massif . The closest place is Kastrovala Forest (Karystia) and Metochi in Kymi (Κύμη) as well as Agii Apostoli and Koutourla
The mountain range is one of the more important karst areas in Greece with many caves. It was recorded under the number A00010054 in the CORINE Land Cover project . As a result, the protected area Esthetiko Dasos Stenis (Αισθητικό Δάσος Στενής - Dasos Stenis) was established. It is a significant area in terms of flora with many endemic mountain plants as well as a large number of bird species including vultures, eagles and eagle owls .
