Mawrud
Mawrud is a red wine variety . It is grown all over the Balkans such as Albania and Romania , but also in some areas of Greece (see Mavrodaphne ). The main cultivation areas with approx. 2000 hectares of vineyards are mainly in the south of Bulgaria . There the vine produces intensely full, dry and tannic wine that is also suitable for longer storage. Mawrud is a specialty from Asenovgrad near Plovdiv in Bulgaria.
