Max Altglass
Max Altglass ( February 16, 1890 in Warsaw - February 13, 1952 in New York ) was a Polish opera singer ( tenor ) and vocal teacher .
Life
After studying singing in Berlin, he made his debut in 1913 at the City Theater of Linz / Danube. From 1913 to 1917 he was at the City Theater of Nuremberg, from 1917 to 1918 at the City Theater of Kiel and from 1918 to 1921 again in Nuremberg. From 1921 to 1924 he was in the Association of the German Theater in Prague.
In 1924 he went to New York to the Metropolitan Opera, where he made his debut as "Nathaniel" in Hoffmann's Tales . He stayed there until his stage farewell in 1940. He then worked as a singing teacher. In New York he sang 64 roles in 715 performances.
Although he sang small roles mainly as a Comprimario, he left behind beautiful acoustic recordings that have been preserved on Odeon .
