Max Berg-Ehlert
Max Otto Leo Berg-Ehlert (born November 21, 1875 in Stargard in Pomerania , † August 12, 1953 in Kassel ) was a German theater actor and director .
Life
The son of a merchant first devoted himself to the pharmacist profession, then made long journeys for two years that took him to Egypt and went to the stage in 1896. He made his debut at the Hoftheater in Wiesbaden, where he remained engaged for a year and took dramatic lessons from Max Köchy , came to the Hoftheater Altenburg in 1897, to Zwickau in 1898, to the Stadttheater in Königsberg in 1900 and was hired for the Residenztheater in Berlin in 1902.
At the age of 33, he became the first director of the Cottbus State Theater in 1908 , from 1912 to 1914 director of the Königsberg city theater and from 1915 to 1929 general director of the Altenburg city theater. Subsequently, from 1930 to 1932, he was director in Kassel , in 1932/33 in the same position in Wiesbaden and from the season 1933/34 director in Breslau. Most recently, until his retirement in 1940, Berg-Ehlert was General Director of the Breslau Municipal Theaters .
After the end of the Second World War he took up residence in Kassel , where he died at the age of 77 in the Niederzwehren district .
