Max Dennert was like Ludwig Noster the son of a Friedeberg master carpenter. The sculptures in the local church gave him the first ideas to copy various ornaments and sculptures. Dennert's youth was initially like that of his friend Ludwig Noster. Although his inner urge to art drew him, he had to adapt to the circumstances and learn his father's craft. After completing his apprenticeship, he went to Berlin with the desire to realize his artistic dreams one day. The works of art that were presented to him in Berlin reinforced his desire to become a sculptor. He first learned wood carving on his own initiative and wandered through Germany as such. In Munich, Nuremberg, Augsburg, Cologne and other cities rich in medieval art, his mind has again focused on his goal of becoming a sculptor. Through diligence and privation he had saved a sufficient sum of money. In Hanover he got the opportunity to attend the drawing class at the Polytechnic under Kaulbach's direction. Although he received the prize in the drawing class in Hanover, he moved back to Berlin. He entered the Academy of Fine Arts as a student, went through drawing classes and studied for a long time in Albert Wolff's modeling class . In addition to his own studies, he occasionally helped Wolff with his larger work.

Then he went to Ernst Herter's master studio , where he created a portrait relief of Kaiser Wilhelm I , which was also exhibited in Friedeberg in 1888. As a result, his gift was also recognized in his hometown and he was commissioned to design the Friedeberger Kaiser Wilhelm I monument. Made from Silesian Warthauer sandstone , the front of the base is adorned with the ore-cast portrait of Emperor Friedrich III. The monument was ceremonially unveiled on May 11, 1896.
During a visit to Friedeberg, the Secret Building Councilor Adler from the Ministry of Public Works became aware of the young Dennert and recommended him for the competition for the design of the tower blower fountain in Bremen . He won first prize and was commissioned to perform the three medieval tower blowers grouped around a church tower.
For the Bremer Bürgerpark he also received the order for the “children's fountain” made of marble, which depicts a roughly ten-year-old girl who tries to make her naked brother's first steps. After the war, the factory was destroyed by soldiers of the occupying powers. Other circles became aware of him and he received further orders.

  • for the manor house the allegorical figures "Shipping and Commerce",
  • some ornamental work for the armory.

In addition, it was especially Krupp in Essen from whom the artist received orders.

  • Dennert created two fountains with depictions of animals in the garden of Villa Hügel ,
  • four herms, which illustrated the four temperaments, grouped around a mighty vase inhabited by a blowing Triton.
  • The two sphinxes at the entrance to the library there were also created by Dennert.
  • For Krupp's boathouse in Kiel he carried out a bronze reduction of the Kaiser Wilhelm monument and jewelry sculptures.

Other works by Max Dennert are:

  • two reliefs "Morning" and "Evening" that went to Paris;
  • an art lover in Halle bought a narcissus fountain, the bronze figure and the stone substructure.
  • "The nymph Echo" and in marble "Cupid is sleeping" were executed in a similar way.
  • several busts, including one of the sculptor's mother,
  • a plaque from Minister of State v. Posadowsky.
  • The simple grave of Dennert's parents in the Friedeberger new cemetery made of bronze and German marble and a cross made as a stele for the landlady von Schönrade, which was his last work.
