Max Guther (* 1992 in Darmstadt ) is a German illustrator . He has created illustrations for companies such as Balenciaga , Esquire , GQ , The New York Times , The New Yorker , Wired . An isometric perspective is used in his work. Known for his "hyper-real portraits of everyday stereotypes".

biography

From 2012 to 2017 he studied communication design at the Mainz University of Applied Sciences. He then completed an internship in the Berlin design studio Hort.

Guther's style is based on the isometric representations of architects and Bauhaus designers such as Walter Gropius and Herbert Bayer. He also cites miniature tables by Roland Reis and photographers David Gomez Maestre and Maria Shvarbova for the use of color. Guther claims to have chosen isometry because "you can look down on what is happening from above and thus create an all-seeing observation position".

Guther was initially fascinated by architecture, but then changed his direction and wanted to use more opportunities for creativity.

Guther uses Photoshop, Illustrator and Blender to create works. Before editing, he creates digital collages from photographs and textures.

Many call Guther's illustrations "hyper-real Sims", analogous to the popular computer game The Sims . A similarity can also be found in the themes depicted in the works. Usually these are everyday situations - at work, at the dining table or near the pool. [10] The illustrator himself says that he never suggested such a reference.

It's nice that this project included Guther in the twelve talents that will conquer the world in 2018.

In 2018 he was inducted into the Young Guns 16 . This is an international portfolio competition in which thirty of the best young representatives of creative professions under the age of 30 are selected every year.
