Max Moszkowicz (born October 5, 1926 in Essen ; died January 27, 2022 in Lanaken ) was a Dutch lawyer .

Life

Max Moszkowicz' father Abraham ran a small mail order business for linen in Essen. He first attended school in Essen, where he was abused as a Jewish swine, and after the National Socialists seized power in 1933 he had to flee abroad with his parents because of the German persecution of the Jews. He was attending school in Maastricht when the Netherlands was invaded in 1940. The family was imprisoned in Westerbork concentration camp in 1942 . His parents and sister were victims of the Holocaust , he himself was imprisoned in the concentration camps of Auschwitz and Mauthausen . After the end of World War IIhe returned to the Netherlands as an orphan at the age of nineteen. Moszkowicz converted to Catholicism and married Maria Bertha Bessems in 1948. They have four sons.

Moszkowicz studied law in Nijmegen and became a lawyer in Maastricht. In the Netherlands he became known for taking on difficult cases from violent criminals as a criminal defense lawyer. He represented i.a. the drug lord Klaas Bruinsma and the Alfred Heineken kidnappers Cor van Hout and Willem Holleeder in court and was also attacked in the media. At the end of 2012 he retired as a lawyer.

Under the pseudonym "Mr. Raab' he wrote a weekly column in the daily newspaper De Telegraaf . Material from this was reused in 1993 in the television series Recht voor z'n Raab , in which he also took part.

He was a member and for several years a functionary in the right-wing liberal People's Party for Vrijheid en Democratie (VVD).

Max Moszkowicz Senior's sons also became lawyers: Max Moszkowicz Junior, David, Robert and most prominently, Bram Moszkowicz .
