May-Britt Kallenrode (born January 4, 1962 in Lübeck ) is a German physicist and president of the University of Koblenz-Landau .

Life

Kallenrode studied physics , mathematics , chemistry and meteorology at the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel between 1981 and 1987 and graduated in 1987 with her diploma thesis in physics on "Helios measurements of solar energetic particles at gamma flares taking into account selected particle injections". She then worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Pure and Applied Nuclear Physics, where she completed her doctorate in 1989 and her habilitation in 1994. She then taught for another two years as a private lecturer or senior assistant at the same institute.

In 1996, Kallenrode was appointed professor of physics in the environmental sciences department at Leuphana University Lüneburg . In 2000 she moved to the Institute for Environmental Systems Science at the University of Osnabrück as professor for environmental physics / modeling . In addition, she was Vice President for Research and Promotion of Young Talent at the University of Osnabrück from 2009 to 2016. Kallenrode has been President of the University of Koblenz-Landau since October 2017 . In 2018 she received an honorary doctorate from the Ukrainian Oles Honchar University in Dnipro . In July 2020, Kallenrode was elected President of the University of Hildesheim . She will take office in January 2021.

Between 2009 and 2013, Kallenrode was a member of the Space Advisory Group of the European Commission , with which, among other things, she developed recommendations on the position of space research for the EU funding program Horizon 2020 .
