May Bellinghausen (born December 6, 1896 in Freiburg im Breisgau ; † March 12, 1985 ibid) was a German teacher and local politician.

Career

Bellinghausen came as the daughter of the publisher Wilhelm Bellinghausen (1856–1920) and his wife Gladys, b. Barwick, to the world. Her father was a director at the Herder publishing house . From 1904 to 1914 she attended the St. Ursula girls' college in Freiburg and from 1914 to 1917 the Catholic teacher training college. In 1918 she passed the first teacher examination, then the higher teacher examination. In the following years she taught at elementary schools in Wolterdingen , Gütenbach , Neudingen , Glottertal , Waldkirch and Erzingen . In 1931 she was transferred to Freiburg. In 1940 she was appointed principal teacher. From 1947 until she retired in 1963, she was the rector of the Pestalozzi Girls' School in Freiburg.

As a member of the CDU , she was a member of the Freiburg City Council from 1953 to 1971. In the 1959 city council election, she achieved the best result and was 10,000 votes ahead of the runner-up.
