Mary Isabella Langrishe
Mary Isabella "May" Langrishe (born December 31, 1864 in Ireland , † January 24, 1939 in Charmouth , England ) was an Irish tennis player.
Langrishe won the first edition of the Irish Championships in 1879 at the age of 14. In 1883 and 1886 she won there again, in 1884 she won the double title at the side of her sister Beatrice. In 1882 she won the title at the Northern Association Championships in Manchester . At the Wimbledon Championships in 1885 she was defeated by the eventual winner Maud Watson in the second round. Two years later she reached the semi-finals, which she lost to Blanche Bingley-Hillyard .
Langrishe died at Hammersmead House in Charmouth in 1939 at the age of 74 . In the same house, seven years later, the first women's Wimbledon winner, Maud Watson, died.
