May McAvoy (born September 8, 1899 in New York City , † April 26, 1984 in Sherman Oaks , California ) was an American actress .
Life
Career
McAvoy came to film straight from high school at the age of 15 and became a popular screen artist shortly after the end of World War I. Her most famous films are Lady Windermeres Fan from 1925 and The Jazzsinger from 1927.
From 1939 she gave guest appearances in front of the camera with small and small roles at irregular intervals. She was last seen in 1957 in Gorges of Doom .
Private
May McAvoy was married to Maurice Cleary from 1929 until her death in 1973, then Vice President and Treasurer of the United Artists and later assistant to the President of the Lockheed aircraft company .
She was buried in Holy Cross Cemetery in Culver City , California .
