After remixing artists like Massive Attack and Gorillaz with her duo She Is Danger , Coles had her breakthrough in 2010 when she released a four-track EP on Frank Roger's label Real Tone Records . She was then recognized as one of the best newcomers of the year by DJ Mag after her track What They Say was one of the most played tracks by Resident Advisor DJs from the EP of the same name .
In 2011, she appeared on the covers of many magazines such as Mixmag and new doors were opened to her growing fame, such as the BBC , which invited her to record an Essential Mix of her own pieces, which was later nominated as Essential Mix of the Year . Later that year, she was named Best Newcomer 2011 at the Ibiza DJ Awards 2011 and came ninth on Resident Advisor's annual DJ ranking .
In 2012 Coles won the 'Best House / Garage / Deep House' track at the Miami Winter Music Conference 2012 , the Staff Pick: Artist of the year 2011 at the Beatport Awards , was the Producer of the Year 2011 for DJ Mag , at Mixmag Best Breakthrough DJ 2011 , for FACT Female Artist 2011 , and Symphonic Distribution's Artist Of The Year 2012 . Maya Jane Coles was invited a little later to record a mix for the DJ Kicks collection. The recordings, which she made in April 2012, received admiring receptions in the specialist magazines. Retrieved September 30, 2013: “Coles isn't concerned with exclusivity, nor staying particularly up to date with brand new tracks, and she doesn't need to be — her mixing carries enough personality to make it distinctive without any of that contextual baggage. It's not a particularly flashy or technically thrilling mix, it's just one of the UK's most intriguing young DJs at the peak of her powers, a well-timed snapshot of a burgeoning big name. "
