Mayken Verhulst (* around 1518 in Mechelen ; † 1599 or April 1, 1600 there ) was a Flemish painter.

Her father was already active as a painter, but only gained fame at the local level. Verhulst was particularly able to draw attention to herself through her miniature paintings . In 1567 she was named by Lodovico Guicciardini as one of the five important painters in the borders of the Netherlands.

Verhulst married the painter Pieter Coecke van Aelst , with whom she had three children. Her children also worked in the field of art, her son Paul became a painter, her daughter Marie married Pieter Brueghel the Elder , who was also a Flemish artist from the Renaissance .

In her later life she taught her children and grandchildren in her profession, so she is said to have taught Jan Breughel the elder the art of painting with watercolors. His brother, Pieter Brueghel the Younger , also apprenticed at Verhulst.
