Mazraat el Chouf ( Arabic مزرعة الشوفAlso: Mazraa Shouf, Mazra'a Chouf, Mazraat ech Chouf) is a village in the district of Chouf in Mount Lebanon Governorate in Lebanon . The population consists of a majority of Druze and Maronites . The population is given as 6923 inhabitants (2014).

Surname

The name literally means "Hof / Alm von Chouf". "Chouf" goes back to the Arabic word "chaf" with the meaning "see" and the derived form "achrafa" (to monitor), the name thus describes a geographically elevated area that allows a view from a great distance.

The local area has an area of ​​1100 ha. The place itself is about 50 km from Beirut at an altitude of 950 m above sea level . Access roads come from Damur - Beit ed-Din and Baaklin - Jdaïdet ech Chouf ( Arabic الجديدة). In the east the local area is bordered by the Nahr al-Awali . The closest places are Kahlouniyeh ( Arabic كحلونية) in the north and Baiqoun ( Arabic بيقون), or Bsaba ( Arabic بسابا) in the south. The village belongs to the Chouf Es Souayjani Union .
