Mbah Gotho

Mbah Gotho or Saparman Sodimejo (officially born on December 31, 1870 in Sragen , Indonesia ; died April 30, 2017 there ) was, according to the Indonesian authorities, the oldest living person in the world at 146 years of age. Independent experts could not officially confirm the birth certificate and thus also the age of Gothos, which is why the Guinness Book of Records did not recognize him as the oldest person in the world; The alleged age is also questioned from other sources. The record holder for the oldest proven age remains Jeanne Calment , who was 122 years old.

Life

Mbah Gotho was a fisherman by profession. He was married four times and had ten siblings, all of whom he survived. His five children also died before him. Gotho's grandson, who has been looking after him since around 1996, cannot remember ever taking his grandfather to hospital. He just had a cold or was exhausted.

According to his own statements to Liputan 6 , Gotho no longer remembered his date of birth, but did remember the construction of a sugar factory in Sragen in 1880. The same TV station aired a documentary in 2016 that rekindled the debate about his age. During this discussion, Robert D. Young of the Gerontology Research Group told dpa in August 2016 that the information on Gotho's age belonged to the same category as Sasquatch , Yeti and the Loch Ness Monster .

According to his own statements, Gotho recently found his old age to be a burden; so he was quoted as saying "What I want is to die". Gotho spent most of the day listening to the radio in his cabin in Cemeng . His eyes were too bad for television. Walking was restricted. He needed help with eating and bathing. He was a smoker. In his opinion, the secret to his old age was “patience and gratitude”.

From April 12 to 16, 2017, he was treated at the RSUD hospital in Sragen. He was admitted there again on April 28, 2017 and died around 5:45 p.m. on April 30, 2017.
