The McCarty Glacier is a broad glacier in the north of Thurston Island before Eights Coast of the West Antarctic Ellsworthlands . There it flows to the head of the Potaka Inlet .
The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names renamed it in 2003 after Owen McCarty, who was one of six survivors of the nine-member crew of a December 30, 1946 at the framework of Operation Highjump (1946-1947) on the Noville Peninsula downed Martin PBM Mariner on January 12, 1947 was rescued.
