history
In 1998 the first shop was opened in Olten . At that time, the basis of the offer was the sale of corrective glasses at a flat rate ( frame and corrective lenses at a full price). In principle, this concept still applies today. In 2001, McOptic was the optical chain with the largest number of branches in German-speaking Switzerland. After ten years of existence, McOptic had 50 branches in German and French-speaking Switzerland in 2008.
further activities
In 2010 the Swiss Red Cross (SRK) and McOptic started a joint project to combat poverty blindness and the poor eyesight of poor people in need of vision in Mali, Africa . The following was already achieved in the first year:
- Modernization of the eye department in the Timbuktu regional hospital in northern Mali

Similar numbers of treatments were achieved in 2011 and a new workshop was also able to be completed to supply the visually impaired with individual new glasses. In addition, the company handed over a number of new glasses frames to the SRC free of charge in 2010. Parallel to the project in Mali , the company also supported other relief activities by the Swiss Red Cross, for example after the 2010 earthquake in Haiti .
