Meadela is a place and a former municipality ( freguesia ) in the northern Portuguese district of Viana do Castelo in the Minho-Lima sub-region .

The community had 9,777 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2011).

On September 29, 2013, the municipalities of Meadela, Viana do Castelo (Santa Maria Maior) and Viana do Castelo (Monserrate) were merged to form the new municipality União das Freguesias de Viana do Castelo (Santa Maria Maior e Monserrate) e Meadela .
