Monserrate is a place and a former municipality ( freguesia ) of the Vila Viana do Castelo in the northern Portuguese district of Viana do Castelo in the Minho-Lima sub-region .

The community had 4927 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2011).

On September 29, 2013, the municipalities of Viana do Castelo (Monserrate), Meadela and Viana do Castelo (Santa Maria Maior) were merged to form the new municipality of União das Freguesias de Viana do Castelo (Santa Maria Maior e Monserrate) e Meadela .
