MechaGodzilla

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

MechaGodzilla ( Japanese メ カ ゴ ジ ラ , Mekagojira ) is a Kaiju from the Tōhō film studio. He is one of the few monsters, albeit in different forms, that appears in all three Godzilla film seasons .

Surname

The name MechaGodzilla consists of two parts. Firstly, Mecha, which is derived from the English word mechanical and translated means mechanical or the name Mecha for a robot. The second part namely Godzilla has the same origin and meaning as the monster Godzilla itself.

description

MechaGodzilla, the mechanical version of Godzilla, appears in a total of 5 different forms over time. The design of this robot is close to Godzilla. Which is also reflected in features such as size. All versions have one thing in common, they are equipped with a wide variety of weapons from head to toe.

MechaGodzilla I or Konga

MechaGodzilla made its first appearance in the 1974 film King Kong vs. Godzilla . It was created here by an expanding alien race to destroy humanity. He is armed from head to toe with weapons. In addition to laser beams and hidden guns in the body, engines allow him to fly in his feet. He can also use his head for a panoramic view and create a kind of protective shield. In the German dubbing of the film, the monster, as the film title suggests, is often referred to as King Kong.

MechaGodzilla II

Just 1 year later, the 2nd version of MechaGodzilla appeared in the film The Devil's Brood . After the previous model was defeated by Godzilla and King Caesar in the last film, the remaining aliens built with the help of Dr. Shinzo Mafune revives the gigantic robot. Again the monster is unleashed on humanity.

MechaGodzilla II has the same capabilities as its predecessor, but they have been improved. The greatest renewal is the brain, which Dr. Shinzo Mafune has used. This allows MechaGodzilla II to fight and think autonomously. However, this brain is linked to its daughter Katsura Mafune, so the robot relies on the physical integrity of Katsura Mafune. At the end of the film he is defeated again by Godzilla.

MechaGodzilla / Super MechaGodzilla

Another version of MechaGodzilla appears in the 1993 film Godzilla vs.MechaGodzilla II . It is only referred to as the MechaGodzilla and is a tribute to its predecessors. In the film, the mechanical monster is constructed by the G-Force as a weapon against Godzilla. Thus this MechaGodzilla stands for the first time on the side of humanity.

It is controlled by several people in a cockpit, which is located in the head of the robot. He can also connect to the Garuda combat robot (which was also created by the G-Force) and thus become the improved Super MechaGodzilla.

Godzilla can destroy him completely with the help of Rodan in the end .

MechaGodzilla III or Kiryu

The last MechaGodzilla in the film series first appeared in the 2002 film Godzilla against MechaGodzilla . His name Kiryu means machine dragon. It is created from the skeleton of the first Godzilla from 1954. The spirit, which still lives in the bones, temporarily takes over the robot and develops a life of its own.

In the 2003 film Godzilla: Tokyo SOS , the badly damaged Kiryu reappears. He is repaired and sent to fight Godzilla and Mothra . At the end of the film, that version of MechaGodzilla will be destroyed for good. The spirit of the 1954 Godzilla takes control of the robot towards the end and plunges with Godzilla into the very spot where he died in 1954. With this he saves his fellow species.

Black MechaGodzilla

This particular version of MechaGodzilla appears only in the Godzilla Island series. It looks exactly like the MechaGodzilla from 1993, with the difference that it is black. He first fights against other monsters. Later he allies himself with Konga (which also appears in the series) against the peaceful monsters of the island.
