Mecklenburg State Calendar

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mecklenburgischer Staatskalender is a collective term for state handbooks , as they have been published in (almost) yearly succession in separate series for the states of Mecklenburg-Schwerin and Mecklenburg-Strelitz since the end of the 18th century .

The state calendars of both parts of Mecklenburg usually contain overviews of all members of the two ducal houses for the previous year, lists of names and functions of all government officials and state employees, important municipal officials as well as the landowners and (in some cases) the land tenants. The state calendars therefore give a detailed overview of the public administration of both Mecklenburgs for the respective year. They also contain statements on the tax and commercial structure of Mecklenburg cities, the topography of the villages and (not always complete) annals of important events in political life.

The Mecklenburg state calendars are thus a secondary source of the very highest order for many questions about the history of the state as well as the administrative history of Mecklenburg.
