Paaschburg

The Paaschburg is a defunct Niederungsburg near Itzehoe in the Steinburg district in Schleswig-Holstein .

It was probably first mentioned in a document as a castle from 1368, when it is called the “Pascheborch”. At first it was still a sovereign, namely counts, court (lat. Curia ). According to Willert, the Paaschburg was built in the second half of the 13th century and took on tasks to supply the crew of Itzehoe Castle , which had previously been carried out in the outer bailey of Itzehoe Castle. The outer bailey was probably given up in 1257 and its area was added to the city of Itzehoe. In the 17th century the Paaschburg is mentioned as a noble estate .

The Paaschburg was located east of the Störschleife with the Itzehoe Castle located in it and south of today's street "Sandberg"; their exact location is no longer known today. In the area in question, the street names "Kleine Paaschburg" and "Große Paaschburg" are reminiscent of them.

Part of the street "Kleine Paaschburg"

The designation "Pa (a) sch (en) burg" is a place and field name that occurs more frequently in the Low German language area. Since the Paaschburg was initially a count's court and the then Counts of Schauenburg and Holstein originally came from the Mittelweser area , today's district of Schaumburg , where forms of the place and field name Paaschburg are also common, it was assumed that the name was transferred by the counts has, but this is not clearly proven.
