Adolf Horn

Adolf Albert August Horn (born January 3, 1759 in Neustrelitz ; † July 29, 1823 ibid) was a German administrative lawyer, archivist and diplomat.

Life

Adolf Horn was a son of the government, magistrate and court secretary Paul Dietrich Horn (1716–1784) in Neustrelitz and his wife, the pastor's daughter Hedwig, geb. Spiegelberg (1733-1786). He attended the school of scholars in Friedland (Mecklenburg) and studied law at the University of Göttingen from 1779 to 1782 . After passing his exams, he practiced as a lawyer in Neustrelitz . Later he became chamber registrar and secret government secretary at the court of Mecklenburg-Strelitz with the title Hofrat . In addition, he was at times legal consistorial advisor, police director and secret archivist. From 1806 he succeeded August Christian Friedrich von der Schulenburg as editor of the Herzoglich [later: Grand Ducal] Mecklenburg-Strelitz State Calendar .

In 1815, Horn was a secret legation councilor for Mecklenburg-Strelitz at the Congress of Vienna . When (Grand) Duke Carl von Mecklenburg-Strelitz offered him the elevation to the hereditary nobility in gratitude, he refused.

He was married to Maria (Sofia Friederike) (1767–1836), b. Gerling, a daughter of the pastor and Konsistorialrat in Neustrelitz Hans Heinrich Gerling (1723–1789) and his first wife Maria Renata (1736–1778), born. Hasselbach, from Stettin. Friedrich Horn and Carl Horn were among the couple's children . In family genealogy, the Neustrelitzer branch begins with Adolf Horn .
