Medal "For the Defense of Odessa"

The medal "For the defense of Odessa" ( Russian Медаль "За оборону Одессы" ) was a Soviet award which was given to the defenders of the city of Odessa in the course of the Battle of Odessa during the Second World War . The foundation was made by Josef Stalin .

Appearance and wearing style

The bronze-colored medal shows on the obverse in the middle two Red Army soldiers storming west with weapons in hand and attached bayonet , the one in front being a sailor. The small inscription CCCP can be read above it . The symbolism is surrounded by the above semicircular inscription За оборону Одессы (For the Defense of Odessa) and two semicircular laurel branches that are crossed at the bottom and end with a Soviet star at their upper ends . The reverse shows the three-line inscription: За нашу / советскую / родину (For our Soviet homeland). Above it are the hammer and sickle symbols .

The medal was worn on the upper left side of the chest of the borrower on an elongated pentagonal fabric-covered clasp, the base color of which is light green. A vertical ice-blue central stripe is woven into the middle of the ribbon. The associated interim brace is of the same quality.
