The Medalha de Mérito ( German  Merit Medal ) is a decoration of East Timor .

background

The Medalha de Mérito is awarded to East Timorese and foreign civilians and military personnel who have made a significant contribution to national peace and stability in order to express appreciation and gratitude.

Civil and military forces, public administration and civil society in general can propose to the President of the State to be honored. Together with the responsible committee, the latter decides on the award of the medal. The members of the commission are appointed by presidential decree. If government employees are to be honored, the government must first give a statement . However, in exceptional cases, awards by the President are possible without meeting this requirement.

The gold medal has a diameter of 38 mm. On the front it shows a five-pointed star and the national flag of East Timor . In the middle of the star is the coat of arms of East Timor . On the back is a laurel crown . The ribbon is in the colors of the national flag, with the dominant gold color, which represents the presidency.
