MediEvil is a video game for Sony PlayStation from 1998. The action adventure was developed by Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (Cambridge). The commercially successful game has a successor MediEvil 2 (also for PlayStation) and a remake for the PlayStation Portable . In December 2017, a remaster of MediEvil for 2018 was officially announced at the PlayStation Experience . Sony Interactive Entertainment Worldwide Studios decided to do a complete remake. The remake of MediEvil has been available for PlayStation 4 since October 25, 2019.

action

The player slips into the role of Sir Daniel Fortesque, who is supposed to free the fictional land Gallowmere from the clutches of the evil magician Zarok. The history, which is of crucial importance, is that Sir Fortesque fought the sorcerer Zarok before and gained great fame in the process, as it is said that he was the one who defeated the evil magician in battle. However, not a word of this is true, rather Fortesque fell under the first hail of arrows in the battle. Now that the witcher threatens the country a second time, Fortesque is brought back to life without further ado and has to fight his way through as a skeleton knight in the further course of the game and earn the fame retrospectively, this time in an honest way. So in the end it is about the fight between good and evil.

Remarkable

The black humor, which is already recognizable in the basic idea, accompanies the player throughout the game. The opponents range from zombies to scarecrows that have come to life, pumpkins and machines. The graphics, which were outstanding for the time, and the atmospheric soundtrack made for a great success. The game is primarily a fighting game, but also contains variations of puzzles.

If, under certain conditions, the player has completed one of the numerous levels, he gets to the so-called Heldensaal, where Fortesque receives a bonus every time, which is entirely in the tradition of Walhalla . Because this is the place where the heroes enjoy themselves after their earthly existence. The aim of the game is to secure a place there as well.
