First ascent 1873 by C. Comyn Tucker and TH Carson with the guide A. Bernard

The Kesselkogel (Italian: Catinaccio d'Antermoia ) is at 3004  m the highest peak of the Rosengarten in the Dolomites . The mountain rises about 20 km east of Bolzano near the border with Trentino , but the summit lies entirely in the area of South Tyrol . It is part of the Schlern-Rosengarten Nature Park .

On the east side, the Englishmen Charles Comyns Tucker and Thomas Henry Carson managed to climb the summit for the first time in 1872, accompanied by the mountain guide Antonio Bernard from Campitello . The western route was first climbed on October 16, 1878 by Johann Santner .

The ascent to the Kesselkogel can be made from the south and east: starting from the Vajolettal and the Grasleitenpasshütte (2601 m), or from the Donatal and the Donapass (2500 m). Access from the northwest ( Tschamintal ) also leads via the Grasleitenpass hut. The rock is mostly brittle. Thanks to the via ferrata through the west flank and the via ferrata through the east flank, which follows the path of the first climbers, the Kesselkogel is still one of the most visited peaks in the Rosengarten group. The Kesselkogel is fairly free and is therefore one of the most beautiful panoramic mountains in the Dolomites.
