Medici is a board game by Reiner Knizia . In an auction, players buy cards that they put together in different sets . The player who gets the most points from sets wins.
Before developing games, Reiner Knizia was a quantitative analyst, a profession devoted entirely to risk analysis for banks. This goes very well with the game: The Medici were also bankers and merchants who improved the accounting standards of the time and based their financial empire on risk analysis and thereby expanded. The game principle of “Medici” works in this way: Each card has an unclear future value, which depends on the future cards drawn from the deck and the cards that other players buy. In order to play the game properly, players need to assess the risks of a purchase beforehand and calculate the price development precisely.
Medici reached 5th place at the 1995 German Games Prize
