Media educational research association Southwest
The Media Education Research Association Southwest is a cooperation project between the State Office for Communication Baden-Württemberg and the State Center for Media and Communication Rhineland-Palatinate . The mpfs has been conducting representative studies (JIM, KIM and FIM) on the media behavior of children, young people and families since 1998.
research
The basic studies JIM (youth, information, (multi-) media) and KIM (children + media, computer + internet) have been providing representative data on media use by children and young people since 1998. Since 2011, the FIM study (Family, Interaction & Media) has been investigating media use in the family context. The mpfs cooperates with SWR Medienforschung on the study series.
JIM study
Since 1998, the JIM study has been questioning over 1,000 young people between the ages of 12 and 19 about how they deal with media and information. The JIM study is designed as a long-term project to document general trends. The JIM study is representative and is one of the most important youth media studies in Germany. Supplementary information on the respective JIM study was published in 2009 and 2011 under the name “JIMplus”.
KIM study
Since 1999, the KIM study has regularly asked children between the ages of 6 and 13 and their mothers about the importance of the media in their everyday lives. The KIM study is designed as a long-term project and seamlessly follows on from the JIM study.
FIM study
In 2011, German families with children between 3 and 19 years of age were surveyed for the first time on media use in the family context with the FIM study. The study also provides the latest information on communication and interaction within the family.
