The Anne Frank Education Center (formerly the Anne Frank Youth Meeting Center ) is an education center in Frankfurt am Main and Kassel . The aim of the facility is to sensitize young people and adults to the present through the biography of Anne Frank under National Socialism . In addition to a learning laboratory , the educational establishment has two advice centers for those affected by discrimination and violence.

The idea of ​​a youth meeting place in Frankfurt, Anne Frank's birthplace , has a long history. As early as 1950, Anne Frank's father Otto expressed the wish for a meeting place in Anne Frank's name. But only through the exhibition “Anne from Frankfurt. The life and world of Anne Frank ”of the Frankfurt Historical Museum in 1991 and the Anne Frank search for traces project in 1993/1994, the implementation became concrete. In 1994, the Anne Frank e. V. founded. At the same time, teachers and parents who were involved in the search for clues in the Dornbusch district joined forces to form a citizens' initiative to set up a youth meeting place. On June 15, 1997, the Anne Frank Youth Meeting Center was opened in the former Youth House, not far from Anne Frank's former place of residence. In 2003 the multimedia exhibition “Anne Frank. A girl from Germany ”, which was developed and produced together with the Anne Frank House (Amsterdam) and the Anne Frank Center (Berlin).

In 2013 the youth meeting center was renamed the Anne Frank Educational Center . The name change emphasizes that the institution is active in many other fields in addition to youth work .

Exhibitions

From 2003 to 2017, the Anne Frank educational institution showed the permanent multimedia and interactive exhibition Anne Frank. A girl from Germany , where young people and adults had the opportunity to explore Anne Frank's biography and the history of National Socialism according to their own interests and to discover “layers of history”. Other focal points were the history of the Frank family and Jewish life in Frankfurt am Main.

The permanent exhibition was dismantled in March 2017 and converted into an interactive learning laboratory "Anne Frank. Tomorrow more." newly opened.

In May 2014, the mobile learning laboratory became Human, You are Right (e)! on racism , discrimination and human rights opened in the Hessian Ministry of Social Affairs. Since then, the innovative touring exhibition has been on tour through rural areas in order to sensitize young people on site to racism and discrimination in their immediate environment and to familiarize them with human rights.

Between 2012 and 2017, the Anne Frank educational institution regularly held special exhibitions: Omid is my name - and that stands for hope (March - October 2012), for example, memorabilia from persecution and flight in Iran in the 1980s were presented. With Homestory Deutschland , the exhibition of the Initiative Schwarze Menschen in Deutschland (ISD) on black biographies in the past and present was given a place in the Frankfurt museum landscape (February to June 2014). With the renovation of the permanent exhibition, the special exhibitions must also be suspended.

The Anne Frank Educational Center offers a comprehensive educational program aimed at both young people and adults: both historical and current topics such as right-wing extremism , mediation and civil courage are dealt with in seminars, training courses and workshops . In addition, further training for multipliers as well as discussions with contemporary witnesses and exchange programs are offered. Together with the Foundation Remembrance, Responsibility, Future (EVZ), the Center for Research on Antisemitism at the Technical University of Berlin and the Pedagogical Center of the Fritz Bauer Institute and the Jewish Museum Frankfurt, the educational establishment organizes the Blickwinkel conference series .
