The medic dam ( Turkish: medic Barajı ) is located on the Tohma Çayı , a right tributary of the Euphrates 30 km north-northwest of the provincial capital Malatya in the south- east Turkish province of Malatya of the same name .
The medic dam was built by order of the state water authority DSİ in the years 1982–1997 as a rock embankment dam with a clay core . The dam is used for energy generation and irrigation . The dam is 42 m high (above the valley floor) and has a volume of 1.03 million m³. The associated reservoir has a water surface of 1.62 km² and a storage volume of 22 million m³. The dam is used to irrigate an area of 20,767 hectares. The hydropower plant of the Medik dam has an installed capacity of 12.5 megawatts . The standard work capacity is 59 GWh per year.
