The Tohma Çayı is a right tributary of the Euphrates in eastern Anatolia .
The Tohma Çayı rises in the Tahtalı Mountains west of the district town of Gürün in the Sivas province . It initially flows in an easterly direction. The D300 trunk road follows the course of the river. The Tohma Çayı passes Gürün and later turns south. It cuts through the mountains north of Darende in a deep gorge. Rafting is offered on an 8 km stretch of river . The Tohma Çayı flows through the city of Darende and gradually turns to the east. The Ayvalı-Tohma Çayı , its most important tributary, flows into the Tohma Çayı on the left at river kilometer 52.5. In the lower reaches, the river is dammed up by the Medik dam . The Tohma Çayı finally flows into a western branch of the Karakaya reservoir 20 km north of the provincial capital Malatya . The Tohma Çayı has a length of about 150 km.
