Medu-jau Mdw-j3w Staff of the Age / Staff of the Old |
Medu-jau ("stick of old age") was the ancient Egyptian name of an assistant or intended successor to an official.
The term appears in the doctrine of Ptahhotep , where the old official asks the king ( Pharaoh ) for a staff of old age and specifically wants his son in this function, who should be the successor of the vizier Ptahhotep . In a Lahun papyri , a successor to the priesthood is expressly referred to as the “staff of old age”.
