Meelis Atonen (born December 5, 1966 in Viljandi ) is an Estonian politician .
Life
Meelis Atonen graduated from Viljandi Middle School in 1985. From 1985 to 1989 he studied mathematics at Tartu State University and from 1989 to 1992 Russian studies at Tallinn Pedagogical University .
In 1994 Atonen joined the liberal Estonian Reform Party ( Eesti Reformierakond ). In 1993/94 he was an employee of the parliamentary group, in 1994 an adviser in the Estonian Ministry of Defense, from 1994 to 1996 mayor of Valga and in 1997/98 a party adviser . From 1996 to 2002 Atonen was a member of the Valga City Council.
From 1999 to 2003 Meelis Atonen was a member of the Estonian Parliament ( Riigikogu ). From April 10, 2003 to September 13, 2004, he held the post of Minister of Economics and Communication of the Republic of Estonia in the cabinet of Prime Minister Juhan Parts . Atonen has been a member of parliament again since 2004.
In addition, he has been an entrepreneur since the early 1990s and is a member of numerous supervisory boards.
Private life
Meelis Atonen is married. He has a daughter and a son.
