history

The place Baisingen was first mentioned in 1258 as Bözzingen . Members of a lower aristocratic family are known for the 13th and 14th centuries who named themselves after the place. Baisingen came under the sovereignty of Austria via the County of Hohenberg in 1381, but the place was pledged to the Lords of Validlingen between 1380 and 1505 . After the Thirty Years' War , the Lords of Wernau and, from 1696, the Stauffenberg taverns held the blood spell.

Jewish residents in Baisingen have been attested since 1596. After being expelled from the larger cities, from Upper Austria and the Duchy of Württemberg , the Jews found a new home in imperial knighthood villages under the protection of the local lords. They sent the Jews to shelters, the number of which increased as the Jewish population grew. Since 1778 there was also a Jewish cemetery . Alongside the synagogue, it represents the second important testimony to Jewish life in Baisingen. After their civil equality in the 19th century, some Jews built large houses in the village that still characterize the townscape today. In 1843 almost a third of Baisingen's residents were Jews. In 1805 Baisingen came to Württemberg and was assigned to the Oberamt Horb (from 1938 district Horb ). In 1933 there were still 86 Jews living in the village. About 60 emigrated later, those who remained were deported to extermination camps . Only a few survivors returned to Baisingen in 1945.

On December 1, 1972, the formerly independent municipality was incorporated into the city of Rottenburg am Neckar and thus into the Tübingen district as part of the regional reform .
