Hemmendorf is a district of Rottenburg am Neckar in the Tübingen district in Baden-Württemberg ( Germany ).

Geographical location
Hemmendorf is around nine kilometers south of the city center on the Gäu plateau at an altitude of 405 to 528 meters. In the east of the settlement area lies the 52 hectare Vollmershalde nature reserve .

Hemmendorf has an area of 657 hectares , 58.8% of which is used for agriculture and 34.1% for forestry; of the rest, 9.7% is accounted for by settlement and traffic areas, 0.5% by water and 0.7% by other uses.
history
The early medieval settlement of the village goes back to the 7th century. The place name is first handed down in writing around the year 1100. In 1258 the local branch of the Catholic Order of St. John / Maltese (Coming) is mentioned for the first time. For almost 550 years the place was a "spiritual dwarf state" and belonged to the Doppelkommende Hemmendorf-Rexingen. In 1805 the order came under Württemberg state sovereignty (1807 Oberamt Rottenburg, 1938 Tübingen district). The Church of St. John the Baptist dates from the 14th century. On January 1, 1972, Hemmendorf was incorporated into the city of Rottenburg am Neckar.
