history
Obernau was first mentioned in a document in 1385. A local castle Ouwe has been mentioned as the seat of the Knights of Ow since 1095 , to whom the poet Hartmann von Aue belonged with a certain probability . Since 1467 the chaplaincy has been looked after by the Canons' Monastery of St. Moriz in Rottenburg. It was only after the abbey was dissolved in 1806 that the parish became independent. Since 1998 the parish of St. Moriz has been responsible for pastoral and organizational support for the Obernau parish. The parish church of St. Peter and Paul was built from 1805.
On January 1, 1972 Obernau was incorporated into the town of Rottenburg am Neckar.
