Korngäu

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Korngäu or Obere Gäu lies between the Black Forest in the west and Schönbuch in the east on a plateau. In the south, the Korn- or Obere Gäu is separated from the Alb foreland by the Neckar valley between Horb and Rottenburg .

Delimitation of the Korn- and Upper Gäus

In the west and northwest, the Korn- / Obere Gäu borders on the Heckengäu , in the northeast on the Strohgäu . In the south follows the ascent to the Swabian Alb .

Heckengäu and Strohgäu, like Korn- / Obere Gäu, are part of the Württemberg Gäu landscape and are characterized by the shell limestone and lower Keuper subsoil. Therefore, there is no noticeable difference in the landscape characteristics, so that there is no clear demarcation of the Korn- / Upper Gäus in the north. Together with the still further north Zabergäu , the four areas form the Baden-Wuerttembergian Gäu .

Designations

The terms “Oberes Gäu” and “Korngäu” usually stand for the same landscape. Often “Oberes Gäu” and “Korngäu” are used synonymously. In cards, e.g. B. Topographic map 1: 50000, the landscape is also referred to as "Upper or Korngäu". The terms "Obere Gäu" (Mz.) Or abbreviated "Gäu" are also widespread, even if only the upper Gäu is meant, e.g. B. Eutingen in the Gäu .

Such as B. verifiable through Internet research using search engines , the designation "Oberes Gäu" is more common and occurs, among other things, regionally in the commercial and public sector (special purpose associations) as well as in clubs, etc. and thus describes the geographical location of a municipality or a community of municipalities in this region .

The term “Korngäu”, on the other hand, is often (but not exclusively) present on websites with reference to natural or scenic conditions or agricultural use. The type locality that gives the name “Korngäu” is in the eastern part, for example between Herrenberg and Neckar. Here, as a result of the +/- eastern layer collapse, as well as at the foot of the slope of the Schönbuch Unterer Keuper , loess cover is widespread, which makes the soil deeper and more fertile.

In the systematics of the manual of the natural structure of Germany, however, the Korngäu (122.41) is part of the Upper Gäus (122.4), whereby the Herrenberg (122.49) mentioned below is assigned to the Upper Gaeu instead of the Korngäu (see natural structure of the Upper Gaeu). According to this classification, areas of the Heckengäus (122.40, 122.44) adjoining the Korngäu to the west are included in the Upper Gäu. The Neckar valley between the towns of Sulz and Rottenburg mentioned below is not even assigned to the Upper Gäu, but to the natural area Eyach -Gäuplatten (122.3). Vöhringen and Horb are also affected. Finally, according to the manual , the Upper Gau ( plural !) Form the natural space unit 122 with the aforementioned and other natural spaces as components. In a north-south direction, the Oberen Gäue extend from the Oberen Gäu via Sulz to just before Schwenningen (natural area 121, Baar ), almost to the source of the Neckar .

As the name "Oberes Gäu" suggests, the highest elevations among the Baden-Württemberg “Gäu landscapes” are to be found here. The Kühlenberg north of the village of Jettingen is 627 m above sea level. NN the highest elevation of the so-called "Gaulandschaften".

Here, too, the landscape is characterized by various karst phenomena , such as B. sinkholes ( sinkholes ) or caves , e.g. B. the Pommerlesloch , a shaft cave between Mötzingen and Jettingen.

economy and politics

As in the rest of the suburbs of the state capital Stuttgart, many companies have settled in the Korngäu. In particular, the convenient location of many municipalities on the A 81 motorway and the Stuttgart S-Bahn has contributed to the region's economic prosperity.

Gäuquadrat

The Korngäu, including the areas around Nagold, is also considered to be economically special in the future and with potential for further growth; For this reason, this region around the four cities of Herrenberg, Rottenburg, Horb and Nagold, which are roughly square to each other, is also specifically referred to as "Gäuquadrat". What makes the location of the Gäuquadrat special is that the four administrative districts of Baden-Württemberg meet here; and because parts of the infrastructure funds are distributed by the government districts, but these are more concentrated on the infrastructure within their district boundaries, the promotion of infrastructure across the district boundaries, such as the public transport connection from Herrenberg ( Stuttgart district ) to Nagold ( Karlsruhe district ), long neglected, which also led to a discussion in the state parliament of Baden-Württemberg .
