particularities Highest point in the district of Böblingen and the Baden-Württemberg Gäu landscapes

The Kühlenberg , also called Kenlenberg , is 627  m above sea level. NHN the highest point of the elongated ridge east of the Nagold on the western edge of the Gäus . The border between the districts of Böblingen and Calw in Baden-Württemberg runs over the mountain and it therefore belongs to the Nagold district of Emmingen in the district of Calw and to the municipality of Jettingen in the district of Böblingen.

The Gau landscapes of the Korngäus and Heckengäus form a distinctive stratified layer made up of shell limestone from Schönbuch and Neckar Valley in the east to Nagoldtal in the west , which gradually rises from east to west and reaches its highest point on the Kühlenberg. The Kühlenberg drops steeply to the Nagoldtal, which represents the natural border to the northern Black Forest and is cut about 230 meters deep at this point. Since the western slope of the Nagold Valley is around 100 meters lower, the Kühlenberg offers a good view of the Black Forest in a westerly direction. In a south-easterly direction the view extends to the Swabian Alb .

The name of the Kühlenberg is obviously due to the fact that this elevation is located on the western edge of the warm summer Gäus and therefore a cool wind from the northern Black Forest seems to be coming from this "cool mountain" from the west - the same certainly applies to the five kilometers south lying iceberg ( 567  m ).

Development

In the immediate vicinity west of the highest point of the Kühlenberg is the homonymous homestead, which belongs to Emmingen. A little to the east of it, also on the Emminger district, there is a sports field and a barbecue area. The old Kühlenberg water tower , built in 1957 to the north-east of it, which now functions as a lookout tower , is already in the municipality of Jettingen. A little south of the Kühlenberg runs the district road that connects Emmingen with Oberjettingen. South of this is the new water tower of the Gäuwasserversorung built in 1963 and two wind turbines.

The Gäurandweg , which leads from Mühlacker to Freudenstadt , runs over the Kühlenberg . On this path, not far from the old water tower, two signs point to the peaks of the Black Forest that can be seen from there in good conditions: These are Hornisgrinde and Schliffkopf in the west, and Seebuck and Feldberg in the southwest.

The Kühlenberg was already developed during the time of Roman rule , a Roman road led from the plateau east of Nagold as a dead straight line along the present day boundary between Emmingen and Oberjettingen to the north to the Kühlenberg and from there through the Heiligenwald down into the Agenbachtal near Sulz am Eck .
