Megalithic sites at Grøfte

The four megalithic complexes of Grøfte are located west of Sorø in the south of the parish Kindertofte in the Sjælland region , on the Danish island of Zealand . The plants were built between 3500 and 2800 BC. BC as large stone graves of the funnel beaker culture (TBK).

Urdolmen are lengthways or parallel beds

Hune bed 1

The north-west-south-east oriented megalopolis 1 ( Danish Langhøj ) is about 27.0 m long, 8.0 m wide and 1.5 m high and is framed by 47 preserved curbs. The highest are about 1.3 m high and are located on the two narrow sides. About 16.5 m from the southeastern end there is a rectangular dolmen as a parallel bar in the giant bed. It is about 1.6 m long, 0.9 m wide and 1.3 m high and consists of four bearing stones, an ancient dolmen without a capstone.

Giant bed 2

The north-west-south-east oriented megalithic bed 2 is about 31.5 m long and 8.0 m wide and is framed by 27 preserved curbs. On the central axis there are two parallel dolmens . About 9.5 m from the north-western end there is a rectangular dolmen in the barren bed. It is about 1.6 m long, 1.0 m wide and 1.0 m high and consists of four bearing stones and the capstone, an ancient dolmen. About 18.0 m from the north-western end there is a rectangular dolmen in the barren bed. It is about 1.9 m long, 1.0 m wide and 1.1 m high and consists of four bearing stones and the capstone, an ancient dolmen.

Hune bed 3

The north-west-south-east oriented megalithic bed 3 is about 80.0 m long and 9.0 m wide. On the central axis, about five meters apart, there are two parallel dolmens in cairns. The north-western one is a rectangular, recessed dolmen as a parallel bar in the giant bed. It is about 1.7 m long, 0.8 m wide and 0.9 m high and consists of six bearing stones, the only capstone and dry masonry . The skeletal remains of two people, 2 eyelet bottles and a fragment of a dagger were found here.

The northeastern one is a rectangular dolmen in a barren bed. It is about 1.7 m long, 0.8 m wide and 0.8 m high and consists of six bearing stones, the only capstone and dry masonry . The skeletal remains of a person and an eyelet bottle were found here.

The overgrown remains of another indeterminate complex were found in the hill. Pavement was observed over much of the hill .

The dolmen

The now free-standing chamber (originally probably in the round hill) is oriented northeast-southwest. It consists of three preserved bearing stones and the capstone.
