Megalo Box ( Jap . メガロボクス Megaro Bokusu ) is a manga series and anime television series from 2018 and part of a 50-year anniversary of Ashita no Joe . The anime was produced by studio TMS Entertainment , whose manga adaptation was drawn by Chikara Sakuma .

The plot revolves around the underground boxing fighter Junk Dog ("JD" for short), who earns his living through combat manipulation by deliberately losing. The fighters have additional mechanical equipment called gear to enhance their physical abilities.

Manga

From February to August 2018 was published in the magazine Shonen Magazine Edge in Kadokawa Shoten a manga series to Megalo Box subtitled Shukumei no Soken . It was drawn by Chikara Sakuma and is based on the concept for the television series. The chapters have been published in two edited volumes.

Anime

The studio TMS Entertainment produced the television series under the direction of Yō Moriyama, which is based on a concept by Katsuhiko Manabe and Kensaku Kojima and is based on the series Ashita no Joe from 1968. The character design was created by Hiroshi Shimizu and the music was composed by mabanua. The opening credits are Bite by LEO Imai and the credits are underlaid with the title Kakatte koi yo ( か か っ て こ い よ ) by Emi Nakamura.

The series was broadcast by TBS in Japan from April 6 to June 29, 2018 , with BS-TBS broadcasting 9 days later. The platform Crunchyroll published the anime in parallel with English, Portuguese, Spanish and Arabic subtitles, while Anime Digital Network offers it with French subtitles.

Polyband Medien secured the license for the German-speaking area and announced that the series will probably be released in three volumes with German synchronization from February 22, 2019. However, the first volume was postponed to March 8, 2019, the number of volumes was changed to four and a slipcase was announced.
