features

The bugs are 4.0 to 5.2 millimeters long. Like all representatives of the genus, they have a darkly colored pronotum, especially roughly dotted at the back . The thighs ( femora ) of the front legs have one long and several small teeth. Megalonotus antennatus can be identified by the legs, which are completely pale brown in color. Your second antennae is also pale in color. Most of the bugs have shortened (brachyptere) wings so that the last tergites of the abdomen are visible.

distribution and habitat

The species is distributed from the northern Mediterranean to the south of Scandinavia and the British Isles and east to Russia, Siberia and across the Black Sea region and the Caucasus to Central Asia. It is widespread and mostly common in Germany, only in the northwestern lowlands it is almost completely absent. In Austria it is just as widespread and mostly common and rises above 1000 meters above sea level in the Alps. In Great Britain it is rare, only distributed locally and occurs in the south, especially in the southwest. Relatively more shaded habitats with different soil properties and humidity are populated. They are found mainly on dry sandy and limestone soils, but also on moist meadows and acidic, bog-like habitats.

Way of life

The animals are probably polyphagous . Certain food crops to which the species would be bound are not known. The way of life has otherwise not been adequately researched.
