Mehdi Mohaghegh ( Persian مهدی محقق; * 1929 or 1930 in Mashhad ) is an Iranian scholar who specializes in Persian literature , Islamic studies and philosophy . He studied in Tehran and later received the Certificate of Higher Studies in Theology (Ijtihad) in Qom . He earned a PhD in both ilāhiyyāt (theology) and Persian literature at the University of Tehran , where he began to teach in 1960. He also taught at various universities abroad.

He is a member of the Egyptian and Syrian Academy of the Arabic Language . He is one of the Senior Fellows of the Royal Aal al-Bayt Institute for Islamic Thought (Royal Aal al-Bayt Institute for Islamic Thought), Jordan .
