Meher Pestonji
Meher Pestonji (born September 19, 1946 in Bombay ) is an Indian social worker , journalist and writer . It belongs to the community of Parsis and lives with her two daughters in Mumbai . She is considered a critical and committed human rights activist and is particularly committed to children's rights and the improvement of living conditions in the slums of Mumbai.
She made substantial contributions in the 1970s in the rape case of 16-year-old Mathura, which ultimately led to a change in the law, and in the 1990s in coming to terms with the Mumbai uprisings. Her story Outsider describes the fate of Indian street children in contrast to the increasing affluence of the middle classes and has been included in the focus of the Abitur in Lower Saxony and North Rhine-Westphalia . In Sadak Chhaap (German: Signs of the Road ) she describes the 10-year-old Rahul who lives on the street and finds an abandoned baby on a platform, which he adopts and raises.
