Mehmet Alagöz

Mehmet Alagöz (* 1949 in Seben , Bolu in northern Turkey as Muhammet Alagöz ) is an artist of Turkish origin living in Germany.

Life

Alagöz was born in Seben / Bolu in northern Turkey in 1949. Having grown up with his grandfather, at the age of 14 he received a scholarship at the Yunus Emre State Teachers' College in Eskisehir , Turkey. From 1966 to 1969 he continued his teaching degree in Ortaköy / Istanbul. At the age of 20 he returned to his homeland as a trained teacher and became a Turkish teacher in a small village school. But just one year after starting his career, Alagöz gave up his teaching career for his great passion for art and enrolled in 1970 at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Istanbul with Devrim Erbil to study painting. In 1975 he completed his studies with a state examination and diploma. During a study trip in 1973, Alagöz felt drawn to European painting of the early 20th century (Cezanne, German realists, ...) and decided to continue his life with art in Europe. From 1975 to 1982 he studied painting at the University of Fine Arts in Braunschweig, where he graduated with a diploma. In 1980 he was a master student with Roland Dörfler . Linked to the title of master class student, the doctorate followed later. In 1981, he was honored with the Rudolf Wilke Prize of the city of Braunschweig and began working as a freelance artist.

A large part of Alagöz's works consists of cubic forms and strong colors and can therefore be assigned to Cubist Expressionism. Thematically, his work is essentially devoted to the three areas, nudes and portraits, abstract painting and figure pictures with Islam-critical content and migration background. Alagöz, who from 1973 settled in a small suburb of Braunschweig - at that time a German-German no man's land - devoted himself particularly to the third area, the figure paintings. Inspired by his close surroundings and his own situation, many figure pictures were created of desperate people, the unemployed and people who are losing their culture. This loss is not only to be understood as the loss of culture, but also the “wrong” living out - the extreme living out - of the culture.

Alagöz enriched his new home for 22 years with a painting course in which people stood as models every week. Hundreds of portraits with many different faces have been created through this course.

Alagöz was a member of the Association of Visual Artists (BBK) in Braunschweig from 1979 to 1999 . From 1990 to 2007 he belonged to the support group Malerkapelle am Elm eV. a. was also a founder.

Mehmet Alagöz worked until August 2015 as a member of the Abant Izzet Baysal University (AIBÜ) in Bolu / Turkey in the Faculty of Fine Arts, at the time of which he was the main responsible for the painting department. Alagöz wants to enable talented students to study art in his native Turkey, as the field of art is not yet established at some universities, so he started as a founding member of the Faculty of Fine Arts at Abant İzzet Baysal University and is currently pursuing his wish since September 2016 in Adıyaman / Turkey at Adıyaman University by becoming a founding member of the Faculty of Fine Arts there. Mehmet Alagöz is currently teaching there in the art / painting department.
