death

Abdullah Öcalan accused Karasungur of spreading that he (Öcalan) had nothing more to say and that Karasungur and his buddies considered the PKK to be their property. Öcalan declared Karasungur a traitor. He wrote in 1993:

“He forged conspiracies: The friends in Eastern Kurdistan (Iran) were under the control of Mehmet Karasungur and Hamit Avci. Until 1982 they blocked every (progress) step of our friends. [...] I fought a great battle against these forces. "

Baki Karer, also a member of the Central Committee of the PKK, wrote in 1986 after his escape from a PKK prison in the Lolan camp that Karasungur had resigned from all offices before his death because of differences with Öcalan. In contrast, Karasungur is venerated as a martyr in the PKK.

Karasungur was married and had one child. His brother Haydar Karasungur was also a member of the PKK. Öcalan removed him from all offices in 1986. He died of self-immolation in 1987 when he was surrounded by Turkish soldiers.
