Mehmet Rauf (born August 24, 1875 in Balat , Istanbul ; † December 25, 1931 ibid) was an Ottoman author who belongs to the Edebiyat-ı Cedîde current.

Life

Rauf attended the military Soğukçeşme School and then graduated from the Naval Academy in 1893 as a naval officer. In 1884 Rauf went to the Ottoman island of Girit as an intern . Rauf was later a liaison officer on the embassy ships in Trabya. Mehmet Rauf married a total of three times. His first wife was the daughter of the aunt of the famous writer Tevfik Fikret . In 1908 Rauf left the Navy and earned his living with his writings.

He wrote for various periodicals, including Servet-i Fünun . His best known work Eylül (September) is considered the first "psychological" novel in Turkish literature . He also published two women's magazines called Mehasin (1909) and Süs (1923).
