The Meijō University ( Japanese 名城 大学 , Meijō daigaku ) is a private university in Japan . The main campus is in Tempaku-ku, Nagoya in Aichi Prefecture .

history

The university was founded in 1926 by the physicist Juichi Tanaka ( 田中 壽 一 , 1886-1960) as the Academy for Natural and Engineering Sciences Nagoya ( 名古屋 高等 理工科 講習 所 , Nagoya kōtō rikōka kōshūjo ). The academy was renamed Nagoya Higher School for Science and Engineering in 1928 and developed into Nagoya Technical School ( 名古屋 専 門 学校 , Nagoya semmon gakkō ) with two departments (applied physics and mathematics) in 1947 . She later added two departments: Law and Political Science, and Commercial Science.

In 1949 the college developed into Meijō University according to the Japanese new education system . It was only opened with the commercial science faculty. In 1950 she added three faculties: Law and Commerce, Natural and Engineering Sciences, and Agricultural Sciences. In 1954 the pharmaceutical faculty and the graduate school (master’s courses) were founded. In 1967 the faculties (except pharmacy) moved to the Tempaku campus. "Doctoral courses" have been offered since 1969.
