My Professor is an online - platform for the evaluation of courses at German universities . Accompanied by an initially high media presence, more than 461,000 reviews have been submitted since November 2005. In the meantime, there are only just under 10,000 evaluations per year, with a particularly strong low in 2014 and 2015. This corresponds to an average of less than 20 evaluations per university in recent years.

The criteria for assessing the courses are fairness, support, material, comprehensibility, fun and interest. In addition, the ratio of grade to effort can be assessed. Students can enter a free text with their own opinion.

Companies

MeinProf is operated by the non-profit association MeinProf eV. The association is closely related to the company auditorium media which has its managing director Oliver Bialas in personal union also authorized to represent the board of My Prof eV.

The advertising on the MeinProf platform is marketed by Audimax Medien. The Audimax press officer is also responsible for MeinProf's public relations. The word mark "MeinProf" is registered with the German Patent and Trademark Office on Oliver Bialas' Campus Consulting GmbH.

University ranking

From 2007 to 2018 MeinProf published a so-called university ranking . To do this, the association aggregated the ratings submitted on the portal without specifying the methodology. From October 2014 to October 2015, according to the MeinProf.de homepage, only around 3,000 ratings were given for courses. This corresponded to an average of less than five ratings for each of the 644 universities listed at the time. Since every student can rate several courses, the average number of actually voting students per university is even lower.

criticism

The platform is criticized by lecturers and universities. In 2006 , for example, RWTH Aachen University successfully requested the operators to remove the profiles of all lecturers working there. 80 of 255 were listed again in 2007, around 40 according to Spiegel Online at their own request. Criticism is directed against partly offensive comments. Especially with the numerous courses with only one evaluation, the platform is used more frequently for public criticism, the representativeness of which is not comprehensible. There are still concerns due to data protection considerations. Lecturers and assessments are retained even if they are no longer working at the university.
