action
In a small, central European kingdom. Lili Wieler earns her living as a dancer. One day she meets King Rupert's chauffeur. This Oswald Stigmat is very enthusiastic about the delicate limb. young woman and immediately falls in love with her. When he drove Lili home in his supreme boss's sleek carriage, a little later the rumor arose in the kingdom that the monarch had a new flame. Lili doesn't like this rumor, but she leaves it on the advice of her confidante Mamma Watschek, who cares about the young girl. Rupert himself brings the story of the king's new lover on the scene, because he would like to know which young lady the gossip press told him this time. He goes to the theater where Lili is performing and visits her in her cloakroom under the false name of a Captain von Linden. Here he thanks Lili for the performance of a song he wrote himself. What hardly anyone knows: His Majesty is an enthusiastic musician and loves to compose by hand in his free time.
It comes as it has to: the king and the dancer fall in love. On the following day, chauffeur Oswald was commissioned by the king to drive the alleged lover, who has now become a real one, to the castle. The whole atmosphere of grandeur and pomp frighten Lili a little, however. So she is all the happier to meet Captain von Linden, whom she knows and loves, there again. Only with the appearance of Queen Mother Therese does Lili know who she has been flirting with recently. The Queen Mother reproaches her son for choosing a little dancer as a friend, of all things, because what the impoverished kingdom urgently needs now is a really good match. A royal wedding must also bring a lot of money into the royal treasury. When the news of a newly discovered oil well hit the headlines one day, all concerns were blown away, and King Rupert no longer had to look for a rich bride, but could rely entirely on his heart. Finally, he introduces his subjects Lili as the newly elected countess and future queen.
